First snowfall of April and probably not our last snowfall. I would guess that we most likely will see more snow this month and I wouldn't rule out snow again in May, many times that is around Mother's Day. October is typically the month's first snow in the mountains of northern New England, the Adirondacks, and the higher peaks of northwest Pennsylvania and the central Appalachians. The highest snowfall ever recorded in the Upper Peninsula was in 1978/79 at the Keweenaw county snow station with 390.4 inches.

The storm system that brough some heavy snowfall through the Upper Peninsula yesterday was a dandy for sure for some areas of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The next few days we should see temps in the upper 30s to the mid 40s with evenings cooling down enough for a few possible flurries through the week. Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand.

Most of the rest of the interior Northeast joins in during November, while the I-95 corridor from Providence, Rhode Island, to Virginia typically waits until December to see their first accumulating snowfall of the season.

Just a smidgen of snow across the Western UP, a few traces of snowfall in the Copper Country area and Central Upper Peninsula.

Snowfall total from overnight October 1 to October 2, 2020 Above are the snowfall totals from last night. Sunday into Monday a couple systems should be arriving in the Upper Midwest and clashing with the northernly downsloping trough that is arriving from Alaska and Canada. It would be interesting to put some data together for April snowfall over the years. Last year we saw snowfall the last three days of April and also a couple times in May, with May 19th being the last day of snow anywhere in the Upper Peninsula. The rivers have been flowing as the temps have risen and snow has been melting so now is the time to get out and see some waterfalls, you may still need some snow shoes in some places if hiking into the woods at some locations.

Greatest snow amounts were directly through the central half of the Upper Peninsula from Sidnaw/Watton along M28 to Covington Jct, areas along US41 to Marquette, M28 to Munising, and south of Harvey along US41 Green Garden, Kiva, Trenary areas.

With the temps dropping into the low to mid 20s and winds shifted in the morning to a direct north wind that dropped a little bit of lake effect snow. Winter will make its ever-anticipated appearance in Michigan in just a few short months, leaving us vulnerable to chilly temperatures and less-than-ideal weather conditions. There may be a few flurries during the week and it probably won't add up to much.
Temperatures should remain on the cooler side through this week and warm up nicely on Saturday with some places possibly reaching the low to mid 50s.

Ice has been disappearing off the shorelines now and the rock along some locations across the Upper Peninsula is now exposed for rock picking.
